Droid Idol began with a dream.  A dream of an Android Market filled with wonderful apps that anyone could discover simply and enjoyably.  Fortunately for us, half of that exists- the Android market is vast and awesome.  Unfortunately, it isn’t always easy to discover apps.  Unless you know exactly what you’re looking for, finding apps on the market can be nearly impossible.  Our first goal is to change that- to highlight the best of the Android Market in such a way that users can find them in a way that is both simple and fun.

Our second goal is to help developers who have worked hard on some incredible apps- both to help them connect with users that are interested in their apps, and in some cases to give them perspective on how to improve things.

We review apps based on 5 categories out of 20 points in each category-

(1) Style (how well it looks)
(2) Function (how thoroughly it does what it sets out to do)
(3) Performance (how well it works, if it doesn’t use too many permissions, and how much free memory the app requires to be installed)
(4) how Intuitive it is
(5) how much it Appeals to the average users

These scores are combined to give the app a score out of 100.  A green score means recommended for everyone, a yellow score means it has something to offer some users, and a red score means not recommended in most cases. We aren’t affiliated with any company and don’t give any reviews special treatment, so the score you see is simply our thoughts about the app.

Each week, one winner will be decided based on their overall score.  These will be the Droid Idol finalists.  Every 5 weeks, a special winner will be decided- that will be your Droid Idol winner!  In addition to the pride and joy that comes with knowing you are the best ever, this award can be displayed on your website and app description.  In the future, we may even have special prizes concerning our Droid Idols!
