Hangman

Hangman is a classic- I remember playing it at school as a kid- sitting around the chalkboard, trying to guess what my friends were thinking. Well, the days of chalkboards are over- now you can play this game on your Android!

Does it Fulfill its Purpose?13This app is hangman, pure and simple. The basic game works well- just tap a letter to guess it. Guess too many wrong letters, and you lose, but guess the whole word and you win! This app boasts a wide array of words in multiple languages, and includes multiple difficulty levels for experts at Hangman. For the most part, though, it is very limited when it comes to features. There are a few that would be nice to see, such as a record of your win/loss percentage, competitive modes with other players, difficulty modes that looked at the difficulty of words, words divided into categories, and other features.
Does it Look Good?16The menu screens look good, and the gameplay looks decent. It’s very simple, and more about form than function, but it certainly gets the job done.
Does it Run Well?12Hangman runs less than 1MB when installed to SD. It uses ad permissions (phone state and internet). I encountered one major bug- when I attempted to check “scores”, the app crashed.
Is it Easy to Use?18For those familiar with this classic game, Hangman will be very simple- tap “play” to receive a number of blanks, then tap letters to guess them. While I assume most users will be familiar with the game, a brief tutorial on the menu screen wouldn’t hurt things.
Is it Fun?8Hangman works well, and the three difficulty modes made it simple to set the game at a difficulty level that will sufficiently challenge you. However, there is one major problem- almost half of the words I encountered were either misspelled or proper nouns. For a game like this, where proper spelling of the word is the goal, this made it much less fun- to fail a round, only to discover that the word was misspelled in the app’s dictionary, is very frustrating.
Overall Score67If you are looking for an Android version of this classic word game, check Hangman out- its simple graphics and vast library of words make this a decent app.
