Does it Fulfill its Purpose?8As far as complete exploration of a concept goes, Brain Battle Show does a decent job. Each category has four games in the free version, but you can unlock more by winning or in-app purchases, or just grab the pro version which has all of them unlocked. Ultimately though, there are a few features that would make this game great that seem to be missing- there’s only one level of AI, and you have to be pretty near perfect to beat it (in the demonstration video the company made they didn’t win- that’s how tough it is). Also, it seems to be a big mistake for a game to advertise itself on the market as primarily a multiplayer game and then not have a multiplayer feature (in fact, Brain Battle Show has a multiplayer button, but clicking on it simply says that it’s only available on the iOS version).
Does it Look Good?19The visual style of Brain Battle Show looks quite good. You can create your own avatar to use in the games, and there are a number of different facial features from which to choose. The games all have nice pictures and charming audio to go along with it. I only experienced a few places where graphics didn’t fit perfectly, but for the most part the visual was one of the strongest points of the game.
Does it Run Well?4This game takes a LONG time to load. My device isn’t the latest on the market so those with the newest ones may fare a little better than I did, but on my device, each game took over a minute to load. It also doesn’t implement a variable framerate, which means that anytime anything slows down your device at all, the gameplay and audio both stutter- in some cases, this makes some of the games nearly impossible to play, much less win. It also doesn’t include code to keep the device from going to sleep, which means half of the time when you’re waiting for the next game to load, the device will auto-lock (which sometimes caused the game to stop responding). That being said, it does run quite small when installed to SD, and the permissions aren’t too bad- it just uses the internet and in-app billing to purchase golden brains (which are used to unlock more minigames).
Is it Easy to Use?10Brain Battle Show doesn’t appear to have been written in English, and it really shows in a few places. The Main Menu screen has voice acting and in addition to not being in English, it stuttered on my device making it sound like a crazy robot. Also, many of the explanations are difficult to understand, and your first round through most games will probably begin with a few seconds of trial and error before you figure it out.
Is it Fun?17The games seemed decently fun from what I could tell. As I said before, the bugs and programming issues made it particularly difficult to play, and the AI was nearly impossible to beat, but for the most part Brain Battle Show is full of some fun games that test your quick thinking skills.
Overall Score58A series of glitches and slow gameplay, as well as some very important missing features, make this set of brain games almost unplayable on most phones. However, those of you with very high-end devices should give it a shot because it really is a very well-produced game.
