Turn your phone into a hypnotic light machine. For those who love being the center of attention we’ve got you covered with Party Light!
|Does it Fulfill its Purpose?||14||Party Light is a color visualization app, and it includes a ton of choices- four pages worth. There are ones that work normally, based on the accelerometer, and based on the beat of the music. Within each visualizer, there is one option that controls the speed. It would be nice to see more options on this, such as excluded colors, random visualizations, and more advanced speed control (as the speed control doesn’t feel like it makes much of a difference on some of the visualizations). An app like this should also include some kind of warning on the screens that flash different colors quickly, because even though it’s only a few of the visualizations it has the potential to trigger seizures in some individuals.|
|Does it Look Good?||18||Most of the visualizations look good and work well. The menus aren’t particularly great looking, but they are more about their function than form.|
|Does it Run Well?||19||Party Light runs at about 250KB when installed to SD. It requires a number of permissions, such as the usual ad permissions (internet, phone state), the ability to listen to audio and take pictures, and control of the flashlight.|
|Is it Easy to Use?||18||Everything was easy to use and worked as I expected, though I had some problems with the integration with TeslaLED- it would be nice to include a link to the app’s market page somewhere, and considering that it includes the permission to use the flashlight I’m not sure why it is needed.|
|Is This App Useful to Everybody?||9||This app definitely has novelty value and is worth checking out, but its day-to-day use is somewhat limited. Furthermore, while having the ads show up on the actual visualizations definitely encourages users to look at the paid version, it makes the free version a little less useful for actual parties.|
|Overall Score||78||If you are looking for a visualizer for your tablet or Google TV while throwing a party, or are looking to use your phone as an accessory at a concert, this app is definitely worth a download. Its wide variety of features means that there is something for everyone here.|
